Job Description
The Production Raw Material Manager is responsible for managing and coordinating the inventory of raw materials and their distribution throughout the production process. This role ensures that raw materials are delivered and available for production according to schedules and customer demands. The manager collaborates with various supervisors to maintain inventory levels and maximize efficiency, without directly overseeing the manufacturing process.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the inventory levels of raw materials to ensure sufficient supply for production.
- Coordinate the distribution of raw materials to the production lines as needed.
- Work with supervisors to align raw material availability with production schedules.
- Maintain communication with suppliers to ensure timely delivery of raw materials.
- Compile and analyze data related to raw material inventory and distribution, including progress of work, inventory levels, costs, and production problems.
- Ensure that all raw materials meet quality standards before being used in production.
- Enforce safety regulations and ensure compliance with company policies in the handling of raw materials.
- Provide training for staff on inventory management and material handling procedures.
- Address any issues related to raw material supply or distribution promptly.
- Compile multiple weekly reports for senior management regarding aged raw materials and work-in-progress for various departments.
- Collaborate with the manufacturing team at the start of each shift and make necessary changes in material distribution to ensure both maximum production efficiencies and customer requirements are met.
- Utilize Lean Manufacturing strategies and Synchronous Flow Management techniques to improve cash flow, ROI, profits, customer satisfaction, and sales.
- Forecast projects, cost efficiency, and payback on capital developments.
- Develop an effective raw material planning program to manage combined sizes at the mill to meet customers’ short-term demands on a timely basis.
Skills
- Exceptional skills in communicating clearly, collaborating with others to make sound decisions, fostering teamwork, and managing multiple priorities concurrently.
- Strong knowledge of Lean/Six Sigma methodology and experience implementing it in a manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and facilitate effective manufacturing processes and system improvements. Demonstrated leadership and mentoring experience.
- Ability to lead and facilitate team-based problem-solving efforts in a manufacturing context.
Qualifications
- A minimum of 3 to 5 years of plant supervision experience in the printing and packaging industry, ideally in roles related to inventory or raw materials management.
- Must have packaging experience and knowledge to be considered.
- A Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
